Nicolaus Copernicus was born on February 19, 1473 in the Kingdom of Poland. His mother and father both worked as merchants during his younger years. He had three siblings in his family. Copernicus never married a woman or had any children due to his dedication to mathematics and sciences. Copernicus was a Renaissance mathmatician and astronomer and he was the first man that discovered the Heliocentric Model of the universe.Copernicus spoke five languages- Polish, German, Latin, Greek, and Italian.Copernicus died on May 24, 1543.

During Copernicus's lifetime most people thought that the Earth was the center of the universe with the sun, the stars, and moons all revolving around it. Copernicus created the Heliocentric Model of the Solar System in which everything revolves around the sun; this model is still in place today. Just before his death, he published his book titled "On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres," which is considered one of the most important events in science to ever happen.
Lasting Impact
He discovered the Heliocentric Model that is still the basis of our outer space theories today.
