Onika Tanka Maraj ,better known as Nicki Minaj was born on December 8,1982 in Saint James,Trinidad and Tobago and raised inJamaica,Queens,New York.She lived with her grandmother until the age of five because her parents were looking for a place to live inthe neighbourhood of Queens inNew York.According to Minaj,herfather drank alcohol,took drugs and once tried to kill her mother by which he burn down his house.Shewent to Laguardia high school andstudied singing and acting.She wasfirst spotted by the CEO of the Young Money,and was later recruited for the Carter Edition .
