Newsletter 5/18 Language Arts and History

Reading and WritingWe are working on how to pull things outof text that are worth talking about.We are looking for big ideas, concepts andthemes across books.In writing we are working on paragraph organization and writing informational text.

Important Dates and InformationThursday 5/19 Parent Outreach night , "How to Have Difficult Conversations with your Kids" Middle School 5:30-7 babysitting available.Tues 5/24 Band Concert 7:00 Walk Festival HallWed 5/25 Choir Concert 7:00 Middle SchoolFriday 5/27 Students need to have poster board for their displays for the Create-A-Country project to school, they can be purchased for $6 at school or brought from home. They also need a pillowcase to paint a flag on.Mon 5/30 No SchoolFriday 6/3 Quarter 4 Reading Requirements Due.3 books, 1 book review 2 with annotations in reading journal.Tuesday 6/7 Bike, Walk, Bus to school day Thursday 6/9 6th grade cultural fair celebrating our Create-A-Country projects. Students need to bring finger food that is native to their country for 20-30 people *parents invited*Friday 6/10 Talent ShowMonday 6/13 Reading Celebration and book exchange. We are collecting books right now for the exchange. Tuesday 6/14 Last day of school. Field day. BBQ each student will need to bring the assinged item. We will also be attending a movie.

HomeworkThere will be no more current eventhomework assignments. Students should be working on their 3-D projects for the culture fair and their quarter 4 reading requirements. As always100 reading minutes signed is dueevery Wednesday.

HistoryWe are leaning about economics. We are alsoworking with maps and applying our knowledgeto our Create-A-Countryatlases. We are learningabout govenment and tradingin ancient China
