THE IDEAL CLEAR LANGUAGE
BEFORE
AFTER
Created “Tractatus-Logico-Philosophicus” where he described the ideal language where one could express all legitimate meanings unambiguously
Complex facts:Built out of atomic facts
Simplest facts: Atomic facts
IF HE IS RIGHT:1) Ideal language is just a dream2) Language is not fixed so true interpretation of a text is not fixed. Meaning of a text is arises from the meaning that people give it as they use it in their everyday lives 3) True interpretation of a text is the interpretation that people give it as they use it
We use language for many different purposes: 1. The meaning of a language or text cannot be isolated from human activities2. Meaning of a language or a text does not depend on the facts it pictures3. Meanings depend on how people use them in the many different activities of life
- Only legitimate meanings were those that could be expressed in his ideal language of facts. - In an ideal language, the simplest atomic facts will be expressed by simple elementary propositions- In an ideal language, the complex facts will made up of elementary propositions
