These are Earths main Continental plates. Plate tectonics is a scientific theory that describes the large-scale motions of Earth's lithosphere. The model builds on the concepts of continental drift. The plates can collide and crash, pull apart, or sideswipe and move past each other. Convergent Boundaries is when they crash, Divergent Boundaries is when they pull apart, Transform Boundaries is when they move past each other.

This picture shows how the continents started and how they spread over time. It formed around 300 million years ago and it began to break apart around 200 million years ago. The plates went from Pangaea to Laurasia and Gondwanaland to North and South America, Eurasia, Africa, India, Antarctica, and Australia to how they are at the present. The peripheral areas of the Pacific Ocean Basin, containing the boundaries of several plates. This area is well known as the Ring of Fire which consists of many active volcanoes.

This is Alfred Wegner born in November 1, 1880, in Berlin, Germany and Died in November 2, 1930, in Clarinetania, Greenland-frozen into the ice. He went to Humboldt University of Berlin. He was a polar researcher, geophysicist and meteorologist. He is well known for his proposal and theory of continental drift. Which all of the scientist thought he was crazy at the time and didn't start to get recognized for his theory until after he died.

Continental Drift

This shows how Continental Drift occuring. When the magma pushes up it pushes the old crust away. Then the lava cools and hardens, making a new crust of Igneous rock, which then pushes the continents or earth away from each other. To sum it all up, the Sea-floor is spreading apart or diverging at the Mid-Ocean ridges. Alfred Wegener proposed the theory of continental drift at the beginning of the 20th century.

These are the animals and plants that were found on the continents, which were Pangaea. This was some of the evidence that Alfred Wegener used to figure out his theory. Glossopteris-a plant, can be found in South America, Africa, India and Australia. The Lystrosaurus is a dicynodont therapsids that was found in Antarctica, India, and South Africa. The Mesosaurus is a marine reptile and is a middle lizard. It lived in southern Africa and South America. Cynognathus, a Triassic land reptile, which was found in south Africa, Argentina, and Antarctica.

This is a picture of the three different types of Plate Boundaries. Divergent boundries move apart and spread away from each other. Convergent boundries move together and collid. They then keep pushing against each other. Transformed boundries move in opposite directions by sliding and rubbing against each other.
