Sumertime regression is a big issue affecting all schoolage children. When children are out of school for the summer, studies have shown that these children lose quite a bit of their knowledge they gain throughout the year. When the children go back to school the teacher has to spend quite a bit of time just to re-teach much of what the children lost over the summer. For children about to enter kindergarten, there are many milestones that need to be met before they start, and there are plenty of ways the parents can help achieve these milestones to assure their child is ready for school.

Social Emotional Development:There are three strands of social emotional development that children need to meet before entering kindergarten. These are:1: Relationships with others: These relationships need to be positive and teach the child about trust.2: Learning about oneself (self-concept):i.e. strengths, weaknesses, beliefs, etc.3. Emotional & Self-Regulation: Ablility to understand, regulate, and express their emotions.

Cognitive Development:There are three stands here:1. Mathematical Concepts - "thinking, knowing, and problem-solving"2. Learning About the World - "scientific inquiry and exploration"3: Learning About Families and Communities - "history, geography, economics, and families and communities"Achieved by:Going to the museum/pretend city for children.
