Pigments in the thylakoid absorb energy from the sun making the electrons go to higher energey levels.
H+ ions build up and create a concentration gradient that diffuses the carrier protein called ATP synthase
the energy released from H+ ions going through and add a phosphate to ADP making ATP
H2O becomes H+ ions and the O2 is released as oxygen
water spilts and replaces the electrons by the excited electrons( light reaction to ETC)
( ETC to calvin Cycle)excited electrons get picked up by electron carrier NADP and temporarily becomes NADPH
excited electrons travel down the ETC and every step down releases energy needed to pump H+ ions into the thylakoid
everytime a H+ ion goes through ATP synthase they act as enzymes
12H2O+6CO2->C6H12O6+6H2O+6O2
outside the thylakoid in the stroma carbon dioxide enters the stomata and combines with five carbon compound
the reactants of the calvin cycle are CO2, ATP, and NADPH
NADPH dontates its electrons by splitting off the H and again becoming NADP and ATP donates energy by breaking off a P and again becoming ADP
the calvin cycle takes place in the stroma
the light reaction takes place in the thylakoid membrane
products of the calvin cycle: glucose
6 carbon is unstable so it breaks into 2 3- carbon which combine with the products of the light reaction
some of the substance formed goes to make organic compounds like glucose
reactants of the light reaction:H2O and sunlight
the rest of the energy is used to rejoin more ATP and form the five carbon compound needed to combine with CO2 and keep the cycle going
products of the light reaction: oxygen and ATP
