Nelson Mandela

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela ( July 18, 1918- December 5, 2013 was known is his country, South Africa, as Madiba.

Mandela was sentenced to life imprisonment. He was imprisioned for more than 27 years because of the fighting against "the white rule" (apartheid)

ApartheidSystem of racial segregation in South Africa and Namibia in force until 1992.This system consisted basically in the creation of separate places for the different racial groups, in the exclusive power of the whites.

After his liberation, he was the main interlocutor of President De Klerk to negotiate the process of democratization.They two shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. In 1994Mandela became the first black president of South Africa. From that office he launched a policy of national reconcilation.

Thousands of people gathered to bid farewell to the great Madiba, the man who beat racism.
