Nelson Mandela




BioNelson Mandela was born on July 18, 1918 in Mveso, Transkei, South Africa. He lived in a small village with his family where they ate pumpkin and beans, maize, and sorghum. He had his education at a number of colleges including the University of London, University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, and University College of Fort Hare. He was a civil rights activist before he was thrown in jail. One of Nelson Mandela's influences were Shakespeares works. He also was influenced by a Bible when he was in jail. It is called the Robben Island bible and it is one of his artifacts. And then there was The Valiant was a volume about words of hardship, political unrest or injustice. On Febuary 11, 1990 he was freed from jail by the president of South Africa as he spent 27 years in jail. He later became president and died on December 5, 2013 in Houghton Estate, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Important Event:He became the first black President of South Africa in 1994, and he served until 1999. He one the nobel peace prize beacause it was a symbol of global peace making.
