Nelson Mandela on July 18, 1918, in the Transkei region of South Africa. As a child, he was going to become chief, but instead after his father's death, he got sent to a Methodist boarding school. There he became a strong Christian. Soon after he went back to his village to undergo three-month ceremonies that changed him into an adult.Then in 1938, he began a legal and political career by going to Fort Hare University, which was also South Africa's first university for blacks. He got expelled from the school and soon continued studying at Witwatersrand University and recived his law degree in 1942. He founded the ANC youth league with his wife and friends and was elected the leaugues president.

July 18,1918- Born in the Transkei region of South Africa1942 -Recived law degree from Witwatersrand University 1944 -Founded the ANC youth league. 1964-Sentenced to life in jail.1990 -Released from Prison.1994 - Elected South Africas 1st black president. December 5 2013- Died at age 95.
