North Carolina

Located in the southern colonies

Founded by english Investors in 1663

Economic Aspects North Carolina's economy was based on agriculture. They developed plantations exporting tobacco, cotton, corn, vegetables, grain, and fruit. It had one of the largest slave population who worked on a plantation. Massive plantations were very self-sufficient because of all the slaves. The crops that they grew were traded for items that couldn't be produced on the plantations.

Social Aspects The colonists of North Carolina traded and required help from the indians for shelter and food. The colonists offered little in return for all the things the native americans did for them. The initial cooperation of natives dissolved into conflict as these outsiders took more and more land and claimed it for their king.

Political Aspects The king appointed the colony’s governor and had the right to approve it's laws. Later on small towns had focused on local government where court was held. When towns grew larger they gained their own municipal governments, they became homes to merchants and craftspeople and centers for further settlement.

Quakers moved to North Carolina to be close to fellow believers and to escape the persecution they had faced in England

Interview of Sir Walter RaleighQ: Why is your colony so special? A: My colony is special because it was one of the first colonies to be colonized.
