Mythology

Mythopoeia: The making of a traditional or legendary story, usually concerning some person. hero or event, especially one that is concerned with deities or demigods and explains some practice, rite, or phenomenon of nature.

When thinking of mythology, old stories about Odysseus and King Arthur might come to mind, however, this is only a small portion of what the genre is today!

Mythopoeia is a word for literature that includes but is not limited to; creating fictional mythology by integrating traditional mythological themes and archetypes. The word first showed up in J. R. R. Tolkien’s poem Mythopoeia, the well known author of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
