Read my book review:“We fumble through and make decisions that allow us to sleep at night—because morals are more important than ethics, and love is more important than law.”“If you have a sister and she dies, do you stop saying you have one? Or are you always a sister, even when the other half of the equation is gone?”“It is the things you cannot see coming that are strong enough to kill you.” Anna has had enough, enough of the checkups, the surgeries, and of being her sister’s donor. The first time Anna donated to her sister Kate, she was a newborn, and she donated cord blood. Little did she know, that was just the beginning. After blood it was lymphocytes, granulocytes, and bone marrow. For her whole life Anna has been the savior, saving her sister each time without being given any choices, choices she wants to be able to make. After much thought Anna has decided to sue her parents in attempt to gain the rights over her own body. When Anna’s parents find out about the case they are furious, and try to get her to change her mind, but Anna won’t budge. As they get closer to the case Anna begins to think about what is really important to her. Is it all worth it? The case slowly tears the family apart, and Kate just keeps getting sicker. Is there any hope? Who will win the case, will it be Anna or her parents? Since Anna lives in a small town, it's hard to run and hide from her problems. What will she do next? My Sister’s Keeper was a very tragic book full of heart-wrenching events and fear of the unknown. This book isn’t a book I would read on a regular basis, but it was a good read. In my opinion the author overdid it a bit, the book was full of never-ending sadness, one chapter after another. A novel should have variety; happy, sad, confusion, etc., not just sadness. If the author added some variety to the novel I think that the story would have been much more enjoyable to read. This novel by Jodi Picoult is filled with interesting characters like Anna, and her sister Kate that make the story very touching, standing side by side, supporting one another until the end. No two characters in the novel are alike; they each have their own personality. I enjoyed reading the story from different character’s points of view, and I thought that was a really interesting thing about the book. The moral of My Sister’s Keeper is that we have to follow our hearts, and fight for what we know is right. Anna fights for what she knows is right deep down in her heart, even if it means taking risks, and hurting the ones she loves. What will happen to Anna? Will she win her case? And will Kate be able to fight off her cancer? To find out what happens in My Sister’s Keeper, you'll have to read the book!By: Sofia B.
