My Hobby: Baking

Since I was a child, I was fascinated by the idea of making my own batch of fresh cookies or a delicious cake. However, my parents forbade me to use any baking utensils or even step foot into the kitchen (mostly likely due to my young age and the fact that I tend to break everything I touch). I can still vividly remember the first time I got to bake, which was done with an Easy Bake Oven at my friend’s birthday party. From that day forward, I begged my parents to let me purchase an instant cupcake mix; and now I bake everything from cookies to cakes and even chocolate macaroon tartes. Baking is my favourite hobby that I try to increase my skill and improve.

I have always had an uncontrollable desire and love for sweet baked goods. It was my sweet tooth which compelled me to attempt to make my own sugary creations. I bake because I simply love to do it. Seeing the smiles and the happiness on other peoples’ faces after they have eaten something that I made brings me indescribable joy. It is also very interesting to experience, first-hand, the process of baking complex desserts, and challenging myself to create such foods. However, I absolutely enjoy being able to combine my love for art and sweet treats as I can decorate cakes and other creations

Ever since I had baked my first packet of instant cupcake mix, I have ventured further and attempted to create more complex, time consuming recipes. I have continued to bake frequently, until I started to create birthday cakes for my family. First I baked a simple cake for my younger brother’s birthday; however, my family enjoyed it so much that now, it has become a tradition in our household for me to create custom-themed cakes for my family’s birthdays. It is an incredible experience for me to bake desserts for my family!

I believe that baking is an important aspect of my life. It is something I love to do and it makes me happy. Whenever I am baking, I do not feel pressured to do it, it has naturally become a part of who I am, even if I fail or succeed. Baking is a hobby that describes my life, as it integrates my love for art and sweet food into a fun filled past time. I know that I will continue to bake for the rest of my life, enjoying it wholeheartedly
