Multicultural Response

"Sustaining Ourselves under Stressful Times"Although this article focuses on multicultural educators, it applies to the daily life of classroom teaching as well. There have been days when I have relied on the spiritual or physical dimension to handle the stress of my profession. We receive resistance from our students in different ways. For example, when the students' behaviors are affecting the academic classroom, it can be cause for a rough day. Teachers can rely on the intellectual, spiritual, physical, or emotional dimensions to get them through the hard days. On the multicultural side of things, it is sad to me that the educators have to even deal with resistance. Our world is constantly changing and education is, as well. It should be embarrassing to people that presenters of this concept were driven away due to the stress and resistance of this program. We teach our students to be respectful, cooperative, caring, and determined, yet as adults, some do not model those traits.
