Jean was born in Belgum on January 12, 1822. He died on August 14, 1900. He died a poor man.
Jean invented and patented the first double acting electric spark ignition internal combustion engine fueled by coal gas. In 1863 attached an improved engine to a wagon that completed an historic fifty mile road trip.
