In 1960, Clay won his first light heavyweight gold metal at the Rome Olympics.In 1964, he changed his name to Muhammed Ali after converting to Islam.On Feburary 25th, at the age of twenty-two he became the heavy weight champion of the world.

Early Beginnings


On October 30, 1974, Ali knocks out champion George Foreman in the Rumble in the Jungle.In 1981, Muhammed loses to Trevor Berbick, and finally hangs up the gloves for good, retiring with an overall professional record of 56—5.

In 1967, he refused to join the Army for religous reasons. This led to his boxing titles and passport to be revokes. He was also banned from boxing for three years.In 1971, the Supreme Court rules in his favor, reversing the 1967 draft-evasion conviction.


Born Cassius Marcellous Clay in Louisville Kentucky, January 17, 1942.He started his boxing career in 1954 at the age of twelve. Two years later, he won the novice Golden Gloves Championship as a light heavyweight.
