MT. FUJI HONSHU, JAPAN

Mt. Fuji is located on Honshu Island (60 miles from Tokyo) and is the tallest mountain in Japan. It last erupted in 1708 and is known as one of the "Three Holy Mountains". Every year, approximately 300.000 people climb Mt. Fuji in July and August. Moisture rises from the ocean and sweeps up the mountain to develop different types clouds surrounding the peak. Its conical shape is based off various volcanic eruptions and is an object of worship. Mt. Fuji demonstrates wind erosion because wind pushes the rocks at the peak of the mountain to the ground and the rough texture of the rocks or soil is the cause for the rock to break down mechanically. Switchbacks are built along the trail up Mt. Fuji in order to prevent erosion from getting to the mountain climbers.
