On May 22, 2001 16 year old Temba Tsheri, a sherpa, became the youngest person to climb Mt. Everest and reach the summit. In a previous atempt he lost several fingers to frostbite.(25)

On May 19th 2000, Toshio Yamamoto a 63 year old became the oldest person to climb Everest.(25)

Most of the year heavy winds that blast snow off the top of the mountain make Everest almost impossible to climb.(27)

The average summit temperature is -33 degreese fahrenheit to -2 degreese fahrenheit. The temperature can drop as low as -76 degreese fahrenheit. (9)

In 1924, George Leigh Mallory and Andrew Irvine tried to reach the top of Everest. Recent evedince shows that they never made it. In 1999 the frozen body of Mallory was found by an American climber.(25)

On May 29th, 1953 Newzelander, Edmund Hillary and his sherpa, climbimg assisant, Tenzing Norgay became the first people to climb Mt. Everest.(25)
