GeologyMonkey Face is more than 300 feet (91 meters) tall. It is made of an igneous rock called welded tuff. Tuff forms when volcanic ash hardens. The rock peaks are called crags.

Monkey Face is one peak in a larger rock structure called Smith Rock. It is located in Smith Rock State Park, just outside of Redmond, Oregon.
