Miss. Green's Introduction

Although I am not interning in a classroom, I have experience with students from all different backgrounds and levels. I serve as a mentor at my university with athletes, honors students and struggling freshman. This has shown me diversity in a whole new way. Additionally, I have explored special education in inclusive and non-inclusive classrooms as a part of an Honors project I conducted last semester. Finally, I have been to Brazil and Peru. This has taught me a lot about the language barrier many students will face in our country, along with cultural differences. While in Peru, I worked at an orphange with highly disabled children and learned even more about the diversity in special education.

Future Goals

I am a Secondary Social Science Education major at Florida Gulf Coast University. I would like to teach at the high school level. Although I am not interning at a school yet, I intern with Farm of the Child, a non-profit that works to provide education along with several other things to orphaned children in Honduras.I also volunteer with Big Brother Big Sisters and Junior Achievement.

My future goals as an educator are to teach high school history in America, and teach English abroad in South America. I hope to start a non-profit organization that deals with education in third world countries. I am so excited to learn all about English Language Learners to help me on this journey!

Diversity in the classroom: Challenges

When working with students of diverse backgrounds, there are a lot of things to consider. Every culture has different ideals and beliefs that must be considered in and outside of the classroom. It is important to consider the other learners in your classroom as well.
