FOOD Minke whales eat a variety of foods. They eat by moving through the water with their mouths open, sucking in their prey. Minke whales eat a variety of foods such as plankton, crustaceans, and small fish. This includes euphuasids, copepods, and sandlace, sometimes even chasing schools of small fish such as sardines, herring, and capelin.

Minke whales live everywhere exept for places that have permanent ice. They migrate north in spring and summer through coastal waters, and they migrate south in autumn and winter through deeper waters.

SIZES Minke whales are the smallest baleen whale in the North Pacific. Adult female minke whales' average size is 28 feet long and eight tons. Adult male minke whales' average size is 26 feet long and six tons. Baby minke whales are, on average, 10 feet long and are 1,000 pounds.
