WHAT IS A MINERAL?
THE FIVE WAYS
there are a few ways to tell if a natural solid is a mineral. First, it HAS to be a solid. then it has to be made in nature. it also has to have crystaline structure, and lastly, it has to have a chemical composition. These things have to be present, in order for it to be a mineral.
This is one cool way of a mineral being made by bacteria, and ways to get clean water from this process.
The five ways to identify a mineral are luster, hardness, streak, color, and how it breaks. Luster is how it reflects to light, color is the shade of the mineral, streak is the powder of the mineral, hardness is how the mineral resists to the streaking, and how it breaks consists of cleavage, if it breaks on a flat surface, and fracture, if it breaks on an irregular surface.
