Given private music lessons by Elwood Buchanan.Influenced by Charlie Parker,whom he played with on numerous occations.Played the trumpet primarily.Styles varied and included bebop, cool jazz, hard bop, modal jazz and jazz fusion.Best album considered to be Kind of Blue, but made other albums such as Birth of the Cool, Sketches of Spain and Somethin' Else with Cannonball Adderley.Won nine Grammy awards.
