At the age of thirteen, Michelangelo was apprenticed to Domenico Ghirlandio, a fashionable painter, from Florence. After a year, Michelangelo decided to attend sculpture school in the Medici gardens. Soon after, he was invited into the household of Lorenzo de Medici, "the magnificent".
