Methamohetamine Foundation for a Drug-Free World, . N.p.. Web. 16 Jan 2014. .

Usually crystal meth is smoked with glass pipes, similar to how crack is used. It can also be injected (either dry or dissolved in water), snorted, swallowed, or inserted into the anus or urethra.

Known as n-methyl-1-phenyl-propan-2-amine, methyl amphetamine, or the common street names: Crystal Meth, speed, Tweak, Ice, and or glass. Methamphetamine ("crystal meth" or "speed") is a synthetic (man-made) stimulant. It is not made from a plant or an herb. Instead, it is produced through chemical synthesis by pharmaceutical companies (for certain medical purposes) and illegal labs (for sale on the street).

How it’s used?

Reasons for use?

Statistics on meth?

•Brain damage•Sensation of flesh crawling (formication)•Paranoia, hallucinations, delusions, tension headache•Muscle breakdown (Rhabdomyolysis) which can lead to kidney damage or failure•Death due to stroke, cardiac arrest or elevated body temperature (hyperthermia)

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime estimated the worldwide production of amphetamine-type stimulants, which includes methamphetamine, at nearly 500 metric tons a year, with 24.7 million abusers. The United States government reported in 2008 that approximately 13 million people over the age of 12 have used methamphetamine—and 529,000 of those are regular users. In 2007, 4.5% of American high-school seniors and 4.1% of tenth grade students reported using methamphetamine at least once in their life.

Females often take meth for extremely rapid weight loss. Though this is fast the body starts to build up a tolerance to the drug so weight loss tapers off and stops around six weeks after taking the drug.

Some people take meth because of the long-lasting high that it gives. Methamphetamine causes many neurotransmitters (dopamine) to be released in the brain, producing a sense of Euphoria that may last as long as 12 hours, depending on how the drug was taken.

-Euphoria is medically recognized as a mental and emotional condition in which a person experiences intense feelings of well-being, elation, happiness, excitement, and joy.

•Tolerance (needing more of the drug to get the same effect)•Drug craving•Withdrawal symptoms including depression•"Meth Mouth" where teeth rapidly decay and fall out•Drug-related psychosis (may last for months or years after drug use is discontinued)

-Rhabdomyolysis is a condition in which damaged skeletal muscle tissue breaks down rapidly. Broken down products of damaged muscle cells are released into the bloodstream and some of these, such as the protein myoglobin, are harmful to the kidneys and may lead to kidney failure.
