Electronic Waste and Landfills!!!!
80 to 85% of electronic products were discarded in landfills or incinerators, which can released in some toxics into the air. Electronic waste represents 2% of America's trash in landfills, but it adds up to 70% of overall toxic waste. 20 to 50 million peices of electronic waste are thrown out worldwide every year. Cell phones and other electronic items have high amounts of important metals like gold or silver. People dump phones containing over $60 million in gold and silver every year. Only 12.5% of electronic waste is now being recycled. For every 1 million cell phones that are recycled, 35,274 lbs of copper, 772 lbs of silver, and 75 lbs, of gold, can be saved and used.
This is what happens to electronic things when they don't work anymore. There are cell phones, computers, toasters and other electronic things in this waste mountian.
People throw out this stuff even if they still work
This is what a part of the world looks like.
These are phones with important metals in them.
