Medieval Food

Rich people ate meats like pork and roast beef, lambchops, deer, rabbit, goat, veal, swans, herons, and poultry. Lords and Nobles were the only ones aloud to hunt deer, boar, hares, and rabbits.They also ate breads. They were one of the very important diet foods. The Upper classes ate bread called Manchet, and the Lower classes ate rye and barley. The rich had put expensive spices on their foods like cinnoman and pepper. Even salt was to expensive for the poor sometimes. As far as drinks go, poor people drank things like ale, mead, and cider. The rich drank many different types of wines. Their water was often unclean so they prevered to drink. Fruits and vgetables were always cooked. Raw fruit fruit and vegetables caused disease. Apples, oranges, lemons, apricot, quince, peaches, cherries, and strawberries were just some of the many fruits they ate. Onions, parsnips, fennel, garlic, parsley, shallot, onions, watercress, and endive, were some of the many vegerables they ate.

Other information1. How rich or poor you were depended on what you ate.2. People today still use the saying "above the salt" to mean a rich person. 3. Breakfast- Food and Drink generally served between 6-7. Dinner- Food and Drink generally served at mid-morning between 12-2. Supper- was a substantial meal and food and drink was generally served between 6-7.
