Basic Job Description and career cluster pathway
- Perform medical autopsies to determine someones cause of death- Therapeutic Services................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
- Bachhelor's Degree- MD (Doctor of Medicine)- After your doctoral degree is achieved, you must then enter a residency program in pathology and forensic pathology (usually takes 5 years)* Usually takes an aditional 8-13 years of education AFTER high school to become a medical examiner
- Not required to become 'licensed' in order to practice- Primary Exam: Basic Pathology Exam- Other Necessary Exam: Forensic Pthology Exam- The cost to take each exam is $1,800.00
$Salary$- Ranges from $75,000-$150,000- as of 2009, NC was $166,660
