Signs and symptoms of measles include coughing, having a runny nose, inflamed eyes, light sensitivity, muscle aches, white spots inside the mouth, sore throat and a red rash over your skin.
Measles is an extremely contagious disease, caused by a virus, that affects the respiratory system. Measles causes you to get a fever and a red rash all over your body.
What It Is
Measles can get spread through contact with infected mucus and saliva . It’s also a disease that travels through the air. It can be transmitted to other people by respiratory functions, like coughing and sneezing.
The best and simple way to prevent measles is to have you and your family vaccinated. The measles vaccine is usually given to you in a shot called MMR, which also adds the benefits of protection against mumps and rubella. Also, people with measles shouldn’t be around other people and should be isolated at all times, if possible, as they have a high chance of transmitting the disease to other people.
There’s no currently available prescription medication to treat measles and the the disease and symptoms usually disappear within two to three weeks, but some medications that can help are fever reducers, vitamin A supplements, fluids to hydrate yourself, rest and a humidifier to help ease your cough and sore throat.
