Me, Earl and the Dying Girl

Me and Earl and The Dying Girl is written from the perspective of Greg Gaines an awkward high school senior who is not part of any social group with no ‘friends’ but a ‘co-worker’ Earl, who he makes film parodies with. This book is where Greg documents what happened to him during his senior year when his mother forces him to socialise with his sort-of ex-girlfriend Rachel, who has just been diagnosed with leukaemia. Greg and Rachel form a friendship as Greg tries desperately not to get attached to ‘the dying girl’.

Plot Summary

In my oppinion if i could recomend this book i would recommend 14 and up. Only because of the death i know i am 14 and it was hard for me to really cope with the endding (oops spoiler). Some kids may be to immature but other than that any one could read. I really enjoyed the emotional rollercoaster it took me on during the story. It was a really good book

Jesse Andrews actually set the whole story based in Pittsburgh, Pensylvania. I stargted to think the story was based off of his highschool years when i discovered he was born there. This story does tak place in the presnt time there isnt a specific time set around specific things.

Author Background

To me the theme in this story is, Live life to the fullest, before time runs out. I feel this theme fits the book best because of the girl and how they help her spirit get lifted and even how Greg falls in love with her and gives her hope.

These are the characters. Since its a movie now the actors are a good representation of what the characters would look like. Greg Gaines is the most important he is the one that is basicly writting this journal. To the right of him is Earl he's like his bestfriend they make short films together but he calls him his co-worker. So one day Greg's mom introduced Greg to Rachel, the girl on the left, and they just fell in "love at first" sight really.
