Maturing Brain

There is a growth of Brain cells and synapses before puperty. Then during Adolescence the brain starts to prun back some of the synapses in order to make the other ones stronger.-(pbs.org)

What the teenage brain seems like...

The Maturing Brain!

The synapses in your brain are the connections. They help to link ideas, feelings and memories to each other. During Adolescents your brain creates even more connections and even overr produces these connections to later be prunned back.

The brain is still a mystery to us.

During this stage of the development teens tend to think here rather than in their prefrontal cortex which leads teens to act on impulse, get into fights, be danger pron, and even misread events or other peoples emotions -(The Teen Brain: Behavior, Problem Solving, and Decision Making 2011)

Q: What do you think would happen if kids went straight to their adult brains and skipped adolescent brain developement?

White matter is what helps nerve signals to flow through out the brain.

Q: How would the world be if we never grew out of the adolescent stage of brain development??

The adolecent brain is in state of chaos and the brain s going through it last big growth spurt.

Students should get "Brain Breaks" to help break up the day. Adolescents cannot handle to much information at once and this would help with that.

Students should have more time to cover information in order to better retain it,

The adolescent brain is no where near done growing. It does not start looking like an adult brain until about one's early 20's. It is still forming new connections throughout adolescent. Gray matter is increasing and it reaches its peak during this time and gray matter makes up the Cortex of the brain. The cortex is where the processes of thought and memory are based. The brain is also lacking white matter too. The emotions also start to change and become heighten due to an increase in hormones. These hormones also lead to changes in behavior.
