Energy is the ability to do work. Energy may be stored (potential energy), or it can be said to be a property of an objects motion (kinetic energy).

Every physical object—the sea, a star, a book, or a person—is made up of matter. Matter is one of the two basic concepts of the physical sciences, the other being energy. Matter and energy can be converted into one another.

The sun radiates a large amount of energy. It lights our days, heats our air and land, and creates weather systems over the oceans. The Earth also gives off energy. Earth's core radiates heat.

Energy connects to life science because every living thing needs energy. All living things get their energy from different sources. The forms of energy that are most significant to life are light, the chemical energy in food, and heat, which is a by-product of all energy reactions.

Scientists use technology and engineering to work with solar energy. To "go green" a lot of people and businesses use solar energy to power their appliances.

This video explains different forms of energy on Earth. It would be useful to tie into Earth Science and how we get our energy from different sources.

Scientists use mathematics and computational thinking when constructing panels to harness solar energy. These panels are typically constructed on roofs for optimal collection. We use this energy to warm our homes, heat our water, and turn on lights.
