-Roman Catholics and other persecuted religions (Baptists, Anglicans, etc).-Protestants flocked in 1640's.-Catholics & Protestants had conflicts which led to Lord Baltimore to create the Toleration Act of 1649. -Became known as a "haven for Catholics".
Relationship with Native Americans
ECONOMY-Native Americans taught colonists many skill (trapping, hunting, growing crops, etc.)-Tobacco (taught by Native Americans and most profitable).-Slavery-Fur trade (traded with Indians and made large profits by selling furs to Europeans).- Cotton, corn, vegetables, grain, fruit and livestock fueled the economy.

-St. Mary was the original settlement.-Balitmore and Annapolis are the biggest cities-Plantations made up 80% of colony.-Shaped like a squirt gun.-Divided by the Chesapeke Bay into Eastern & Western Shore.
-Called a southern state (due to being in southern half during colonial times).-Warmest of 3 regions.-Winters easy to survive.-Hot/humid summers gave rise/spread of disease.-Climate made it possible to grow crops year round suited for plantations.
