Lucia of Syracuse also know as Saint Lucy was a christian martyr that died during the Diocletianic Persecution. she is one of eight woman included blessed virgin mary are commemorated by name in the Canon of the Mass.

St Lucy has a feast day, Her feast day, known as Saint Lucy's Day, is celebrated in the West on 13 December. St. Lucia of Syracuse was honored in the Middle Ages and remained a well-known saint in early modern England

Where did she come from?

Acording to the trandional story st Lucy was born about the year 283 to wealthy and noble parents. Her father was of Roman origin, but died when she was five years old.Her mothers name 'Eutychia' seems to indicate that she came of Greek stock. similar to many of the early martyrs, Lucy had consecrated her virginity to God, and hoped to share her dowry with the poor. However, Lucy's mother not aware of Lucy’s promise and suffering from a bleeding disorder worried for Lucy’s future. She arranged for Lucy to become wed to a young man of a wealthy pagan family. St. Agatha came to Lucy in a dream and told her that because of her faith her mother would be cured and that Lucy would be the glory of Syracuse, With her mother cured, Lucy took the opportunity to persuade her mother to allow her to distribute a great amount of her riches among the poor.Euthychia suggested that the sums would make a good bequest, but Lucy countered, "...whatever you give away at death for the Lord's sake you give because you cannot take it with you. Give now to the true Savior, while you are healthy, whatever you intended to give away at your death". News of the riches being distributed came to Lucy's betrothed, who denounced her to Paschasius, the Governor of Syracuse. He ordered lucy to burn a scrafice in the emperor's image, lucy refused and Paschasius sentenced her to be defiled in a brothel. The Christian tradition states that when the guards came to take her away, they could not move her even when they hitched her to a team of oxen. Bundles of wood were then heaped onto her and set on fire, but they would not burn. Lucy then soon met her death by the sword. she was martyred in the year 304.

Lucia of syracuse is an imporant martyr because she allowed herself to be taking knowing that god had a plan for her and placed her trust in him to deliver to her his wisdom and show her the path to take during a difficult time. Lucy belived that god would help her continue her path of life until it ends.

Theodore is a special and important martyr and even just person in general this is mostly based on his beliefs and they way he married himself to God he knew of Gods power from and young age and made it his life goal to be apart of Gods holy comunity in the best and post powerful way he could. he came to his death stared it in the eyes and accepted it because he knew it was Gods plan for him. to me this is truly important and that is why Theodore Romzha should be considered as an important martyr and person in the christian community.

Why is Lucy important?

Both St. lucy and Theodore romzha lead similar lives in the way they both took their own deaths, without fear for their lives but insted having faith and trust that god knew what was right for them and that he would lead them in the right direction of their lives. They were also quite similar in their up-bringing, Lucy was born into a rich family whereas Theodore was born into a normal family not rich yet not poor, but both were born into happy, loving families. Theodore and Lucia were also similar in their faith and beliefs both belived in god's plan and that he would save them from evil until their time to leave the earth came.
