Martin Luther King Jr.

He was believed in equal rights no matter what you looked like. He was inspired by mahatma Gandhi non- violence and believed it was the right way to protest. king was a very influencial and powerful speaker. he convinced many people to participate in his non- violent protests. The march on washington is where king gave his famous 17 minute speech known and his "I have a Dream"

1929 - Born January 15th 1956 - Nov 13th supreme court rules that bus segregation is illegal. 1958 - kings first book.1960 - Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee founded to coordinate protests.1963 - king was arrested and March on Washington.1968 - Assassinated

"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

Lasting Impact

Martin Luther King Jr. started the fight for equal rights for blacks and whites. After his assassination more groups sufaced to fight for civil rights.
