MARS

These are Mars' two moons, Phobos and Deimos. They are very small, and scientists think they might have been from the nearby Asteroid Belt.

Mars, also known as the Red Planet is very unique to the Solar Systen. It is the fourth planet from the sun (142 million miles away), so it has extreme temperatures. Its' highest temperature is 80 degrees Fahrenheit, and its' lowest temperature is -207 degrees Fahrenheit! Mars has 2 satellites. Many scientists believe that Mars was once covered with water. On Mars' red surface, ripple marks are found . Like Earth, Mars has ice caps. Instead of water, this ice is made from carbon dioxide, also known as dry ice. A year on Mars is about 687 Earth days. A day on Mars is about 1.4 Earth days. Mars' core may be composed of iron and sulfer. Mars' nickname "The Red Planet" because of its red appearance. Simple as that.

This picture of Mars' surface really shows how it got its nickname "The Red Planet"

A photo of the surface of Mars shows that water once flowed over the Red Planet.

This is the south Ice Cap on Mars. Unlike Earth ice, this is made of Carbon Dioxide, or dry ice.
