Marie Curie

Marie Curie was born in Warsaw, Poland, Nov. 7th, 1867. A She died in Savoy, France, July 4th, 1934. A Marie was 66 when she died. A She had 4 siblings. C When she was 11, her mother and sister, Zosia, died of tuberculosis. C Marie became an atheist, (someone who doesn't believe in a supreme being or a god) at age 11. C Her name at birth was actually Marja Sklodowska. B Pierre Curie, her husband, was born on May 15th, 1859 in Paris, France. B Her 2 daughter's names were Irene and Eve. B Went to Sorbonne, France to got to college because their were no colleges for girls in Poland. A Married Pierre Curie. AHad two children. A

Acheivments

Achievements. She was a physicist/chemist. A Marie was the 1st person to turn uranium into radium. A It took her 4 years to convert the uranium into radium. A Marie and Pierre with Antoine Henri Becquerel won a Nobel Prize but Marie had lost 15 pounds and Pierre could barely walk so they couldn't pick up the prize. A She was inspired by Antoine Henri Becquerel. B Since Pierre could barely walk because of the radioactivity from the radium he was run over by a cab and died in 1906. Marie was the 1st female professor at the Sorbonne University and she taught Radioactivity 101. AShe named and helped study radioactivity. Marie won another Nobel Prize for chemistry. A Later Marie drove an X-Ray machine in WWI to help doctors find bullets in wounded soldiers. A She also at home tried to find a medical use for radioactive materials. A Marie is the only person who has won a Nobel Prize in two different fields. C The elements she discovered were called polonium and radium. C Marie was becoming extremely sick and she was almost blind. A One of her students had to get amputated and 15 people who painted radium on clocks died. A Marie was losing red blood cells so less oxygen was going to her brain. A The causes were using her bare hands and using a straw to transfer toxic ingredients. A Marie was getting a horrible fever. Her bone marrow shut down, causing her not to make any more blood. A She died by aplastic anemia. A

What is Aplastic Anemia?

Aplastic anemia is when bone marrow doesn't make enough cells to replenish blood. Symptoms are: lack of energy, unhealthy paleness, and easy bruising. The cause is exposure to toxins and radioactive materials.
