Marano Lagunare

It is a small village situated in the North East of Italy, not far from Venice on the coast of the Adriatic sea.A lot of people from Marano work as fisher.The most important activities in Marano are fishing and turism.Although it is only a small village, in summer a lot of tourists from Germany and Austria vistit it. The village looks like a small Venice, with its narrows streets called "calli" , its old buildings, the church and the millenary bell tower.

Marano is very famous for its cousine.There are a lot of dishes whose main ingredient is fish.Here you can eat the famous "boreto a la maranese".

HistoryThe village was part of the territory of the Repubblic of Venice, and you can still see the influence of the Serenissima in a lot of building and in the narrow streets of the centre.

GeographyIt is situated in the Province of Udine in the Italian region Friuli-Venezia Giulia, located about 50 kilometres (31 mi) northwest of Trieste and about 35 kilometres (22 mi) south of Udine

DemographicsThe village has o population of about 2100 inhabtants.

In Marano there is a natural park, the natural oasis, where you can find a lot of sea birds and you can visit the "casoni", the fishers' houses.
