The Manahattan Project was a research and development project that developed the first atomic bomb during the World War 2. Major General Leslie Groves was in charge of this project from 1942 to 1946. The army component of this project was designated in the Manhattan Project. This project technically started in 1939 but grew to employ 130,000 people and it would cost the U.S $2 Billion. Over 90% of the cost was for building factories and producing the fassile materials. Research and production took place at more than 30 sites across the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada.
Accomplishments
- The United States achieved what they were working for, which was to build the first atomic bomb (WW2).- The Manhattan Project basically brought World War 2 to an end.- The Manhattan Project technically made the other countries afraid of the U.S because they now knew how powerful they could be.
Lasting Impact
-Rain that follows the bomb were heavily contaminated with radioactive particles.
