Kangaroo DescriptionKangaroos  have, large powerful hind legs , large feet adapted for leaping, and a long muscular tail for balance.  Surprisingly, kangaroos have a small head. The average red kangaroo is approximately 4.9 ft and weighs 28 kg. A kangaroos body shape is kind of arched. They use their massive feet to fight against other kangaroos and predators.Kangaroos have large curved claws. They also have, three pairs of incisors in their upper jaws, and one pair in their lower jaw. Kangaroos can easily be identified by their muscular tail.

Kangaroo Diet Kangaroos are herbivores, they eat grasses, flowers, leaves, ferns,moss, and even insects. Like Cows, Kangaroos regurgitate their food and re-chew it before it is ready to be totally digested. They have chambered stomachs, similar to Sheep and Cattle. They often eat at night, grazing on ants and grass.  Kangaroos will ear shoots and leaves from shrubs and grass trees.Kangaroos drink water, but do not require a great deal of it because they are nourished by the plants they eat. They are capable of going four months without any water. There are four different Kangaroo species and they all have slightly different diets.

Fun FactsA kangaroo can leap 30 feet in a single bounce, and they are the only large animals that move by hopping. Did you know that if you lift a little kangaroos tail off the ground it can't hop. A group of kangaroos is known as a mob, also kangaroos can swim! Kangaroos can't hop backwards. In the wild Kangaroos often live up to the age of 6, but sometimes can live up to be older. Kangaroos are left handed. When fighting other kangaroos, they know how to use a chokehold! The red kangaroo is the largest marsupial in the world. When being attacked kangaroos will sometimes get in the water and try to drown their predator.

Kangaroo HabitatKangaroos are found in Australia, Tasmania, on surrounding islands, and in Papa New Guinea. Their habitats can be, forests, woodlands, grassy plains, and savannas.  What you will find is that particular species happen to be in particular regions. The Red kangaroo adapts very well to the dry climate found in many areas of Australia. Both the Eastern and Western Kangaroos prefer a climate that offers them more moisture.

Some characteristics of mammals are, mammals are  endothermic vertebrates, they posses one single jaw bone, they have three small bones in the middle of their ear, and they have four chambered hearts. Something that mammals have in common is, most mammals have hair or fur. Mammals have been on earth for 200 million years, in fact , dinosaurs and mammals originated within 10 million years of each other. There are 5 416 different species of mammals.
