Malaria

What is malaria?

Malaria is a serious disease that causes a high fever and chills.

Malaria

Artemisinin is an antimalarial drug. It is a big and important drug in treating malaria. It targets the malaria causing protozoal organisms. Artemisinin may be administered orally, intramuscularly, or as a suppository. Artemisinin and its derivatives have a short duration of action and target malaria parasites in a specific stage of their life cycle. It is very important to the struggle to control malaria because it prevents the spread of malaria.

Disease-causing organisms become resistant to the drugs used to control them because of misuse (overuse and underuse) of antibiotics that lead to the common antibiotics no longer being able to treat disease-causing organisms. This resistance continues on because the resistant organisms can often spread their resistance to their offspring.

Why are disease-causing organisms become resistant to the drugs used to control them?

SYMPTOMS- high fevers- chills- muscle pains

- a bite from a mosquito infected with parasites- contact with infected blood- from an infected mother to her developing baby

Treatment:Take medicine

Can be caused by:

Artemisinin and its derivatives have a short duration of action and only target malaria parasites in a specific stage of their life cycle, so therefore there is a high rate of a disease relapse when they are used alone to treat malaria. As a result of this, experts recommend treating malaria with artemisinin combined with other antimalarial drugs that are longer-acting. They recommend this because the Artemisinin treats what it can and then the other drugs treat what is remaining.

ARTEMISININ

To contain the spread of artemisinin-resistant malaria:

Diagnose malaria early on so there is a better chance of treating it
