Malaria 2

InformationSlide Show & Audio

Every 30 seconds, a child dies from malaria.

Half of the world's population is at risk of malariaEvery year, 3.3 billion people are at risk of malaria. This leads to about 219 million malaria cases and an estimated 660 000 malaria deaths. People living in the poorest countries are the most vulnerable.

Early diagnosis and prompt treatment of malaria prevents deaths.

The complexity of the malaria parasite makes development of a malaria vaccine a very difficult task. Given this, there is currently no commercially available malaria vaccine, despite many decades of intense research and development effort.

Malaria is caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected mosquitoes.

MALARIA

Sleeping under long-lasting insecticidal nets protects against malaria and provide personal protection against mosquito bites. They can be used as protection for people most at risk of malaria, such as young children and pregnant women in high malaria transmission areas.
