About the Book

Book Cover

Susan Senator

Nat was diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD) by a developmental pediatrician, when he was around two years old. Susan took the news hard and had to see a therapist for help. Ned was relieved that they found out what was different about Nat, but kept his feelings to himself. Max took over the role as the oldest sibling, but felt that he had to be self-reliant because his brother had challanging behaviors. Ben realized that when he tried to talk to Nat and he didn't respond that it would be best if he just ignored him altogether. Nat had difficult behavior at times when he was younger. Susan and Ned created crisis books that were narrated books with pictures that described how Nat was supposed to act at particular event. The books were a huge hit with Nat because he liked the pattern and repetition of the narration. His behavior was much better at events since the implementation of the crisis books. Nat attended several different schools while growing up. He was placed in some inclusion settings as well as home school.
