Major Battles of the American Civil War

SignificanceThe battle of Bull Run was the first battle in the Civil War. This battle was also the bloodiest battle in American history up to that point. The Union troops tried to seize a vital railroad to gain an upper hand on the Confederates but the Confederates were waiting at Bull Run for the Union troops. The Confederates defeated the Untion toops.

SignificanceFirst battle of the Civil War to be fought in the North, took place near Antietam creek in Sharpsburg, Maryland. This is the battle that ended the Civil War. With this battle, President Lincoln issued the Procolmation of Emanipation to all slaves.
