Historical Secret Behind the "Lost City" of Machu Picchu

Scout the Area!Cool Panorama View!Learn more about Machu Picchu!

It is believed that Machu Picchu was a retreat built by and for Pachacuti, the Inca ruler. The architectures proved to be excellent, blending into the rock escarpments, though the Inca had no use of iron, steel, mortar and wheels to aid them during construction. The grand terraced fields surround the hills for farming. Unfortunately, the Inca never completed the construction because of the Spanish Conquest.

It is hard to believe such a remarkable site can be hidden and abandoned for as long as 100 years. Machu Picchu is believed to have been built by the ninth ruler of the Inca Empire, Pachacuti Inca Yupanqui, around A.D. 1450. With significant architectures and culture left behind, we were able to shape the history of the “Lost City”.

Since the Inca had no written language, they left no record of why and how they built Machu Picchu, especially in such an extraordinary location. It was Museo de Sitio Manuel Chávez Ballón who filled in the blanks and solved the mystery.

The Spanish had no clue of the existence of Machu Picchu and after many long years, it was left isolated until 1911. A Yale University professor, Hiram Bingham, stumbled upon the Inca trails and ended up discovering Machu Picchu. Isolation helped preserve the undisturbed site for many centuries. On July 7th, 2007, Machu Picchu was declared one of the “New Seven Wonders of the World” as well as one of the most important archaeological sites in the world.

I think there are so many chunks of writings on your Glog that I kind of lost my interest in it. It is pretty simple, which I really like, but make sure to make your text larger and clearer to the eyes. I like the format and organization of your Glog. However, I would like it more if the pictures were larger and if you can do something to it that would make it more interesting to readers.

    Hi Leena,
I think your Glog is great! I think that you should use different text in stead of just one same textbox. I don't know if this happens to everybody or not but the video is kind of laggy and i can't watch it very well

Wow! Such a nice glog Leena, really interesting information about how a professor discovered Machu Picchu. What i only have a comment on is you should separate the facts into different boxes and remove unecessary informations.

    Hi Leena
I think that your glog is very attractive and the background suits the subject very well. Your paragraphs and facts were also very interesting to read but they could've been placed more separately so that the viewer doesn't need to scroll the text box down for the information. The pictures were also very well placed.
