Macbeth

By: William Shakespeare

"Present fears are less than horrible imaginings: My thought, whose murder yet is but fantastical." -Macbeth

Motif:

Violence

"Unsex me here, and fill me from the crown to the toe top-full of direst cruelty! Make thick my blood." -Lady Macbeth

This quote develops the story's theme "Fair is foul, foul is fair" because Macbeth is a loyal and a good soldier of King Duncan yet he imagines killing him.

"Till he unseam'd him from the nave to the chaps, and fix'd his head upon our battlements." -Sergeant

This quote develops Macbeth's character as very savage and valiant because he will cut the head of his enemies. It also characterizes him as a brave and relentless soldier.

This quote develops Lady Macbeth's character which is intense. She doesn't want to be weak and doesn't want to feel guilty on killing King Duncan.

"O, yet I do repent me of my fury, that I did kill them." -Macbeth

Macbeth's character has changed because when he killed King Duncan he felt guilty and now he is ruthless because he killed the guards in front of Lennox and Ross without hesitation.

"The castle of Macduff I will surprise; Seize upon Fife; give to the edge o' the sword. His wife, his babes, and all unfortunate souls that trace him in his line." -Macbeth

Macbeth becomes a dynamic character because he is now pure evil he wants to kill the family of Macduff and he does not feel guilty just because he feels threatened.
