Macbeth Timeline of Events

The three witches inform Macbeth of the prophecies of him becoming thane then later king.

Act I

Macbeth tells his wife what the witches says and she encourages him to kill king Duncan and invites him to dinner.

Macbeth decides to go through with the plan but hallucinates from guilt.

Act II

"Where is that knocking? How is't with me, when every noise appalls me. What hands are here? Ha! They pluck out mine eyes."- Macbeth

MacDuff finds King Duncan dead.

Ross and MacDuff now inform Macbeth he is now king.

"The sovereignty will fall upon Macbeth." - Ross

"He is already named and gone to scone to be invested." -Macduff

Banquo is now suspicious of Macbeth's behavior.

Act III

Macbeth hires two murderers to kill Banquo and his son Fleance upon arrival.

A third murderer joins the men and take out Banquo. Banquo yells for his son to flee and Fleance escapes but Banquo does not.

The three men decide to leave the body behind for Macbeth to see himself.

The wyrd sisters plan to trick Macbeth into confidence by command of Hecate.

Act IV

"Fair is foul, and foul is fair".

MacDuff's wife is angry and confused on why her husband left. She goes to speak to her son and both are murdered on behalf on macbeth.

"Be bloody, bold, and resolute. Laugh to scorn The power of man, for none of woman born Shall harm Macbeth." -Witches

Malcom and MacDuff decide to declare war on Macbeth to avenge those he's killed.

MacDuff finds out about his wife and son and his heart broken. He uses this to focus even more on killing Macbeth

Act V

A doctor is called for Lady Macbeth. She has been sleep walking and hallucinating. Macbeth is informed it is from extreme guilt and worry.

"Wash your hands. Put on your nightgown. Look not so pale.—I tell you yet again, Banquo's buried; he cannot come out on 's grave." - Lady Macbeth

Macbeth is aware of Malcom and MacDuff's plan but is not afraid. He feels untouchable by any man.

Malcom instructs the soldiers to use the Birnam wood as protection while headed towards the castle.

During the fight Macbeth still feels untouch able but is finally beheaded by MacDuff.

Malcom becomes the new king of Scotland.

"Hail, king! For so thou art. Behold where stands The usurper's cursèd head." - MacDuff

Lady Macbeth dies but strangely does not bother her husband. He feels as if it was bound to happen and we all die anyway.
