Lynching

Lynchings became popular in the south. It was used as a way of resolving anger whites had towards blacks.

In Mississippi alone between 1882 and 1968 42 whites and 539 blacks were killed from lychings.

Blacks were often accused of crimes and hanged without a trial by whites. Majority of the time whites would arrest and lynch the wrong person for the crime.

Sometimes entire communities would come together for a lynching in the South.

A noose is commonly used during a lynching to kill the victim.

Lyching is to kill by hanging for an alleged offence without a legal trial.

The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) frequently would hang blacks out of hatred

Lynchings would sometimes result in peaceful and violent racial riots or protests between white racists and anti-racist whites and colored.

Advertisement or celebration of lynching by racists who felt they did the right thing, by often killing innocent men and women.
