Common Education Problems: Children often have a hard time focusing and doing their work. Autistic students also have a hard time interacting with their peers

Background Information: Defined as a hearing impairment, whether permanent or fluctuating, affects a students' educational performance, but isn't included under deafness.

Deaf & Blindness

Background Information: Deaf and Blindness have 4 primary causes which include: Hereditary and Chromosomal Disorders, Placenta Viruses, Complications at birth and postnatal injuries and illness.

Accommodations/Modifications: Teachers can make the classroom predictable. Students with autism don't like change. Students with Autism also benefit from daily routines so they know exactly what to expect.

Common Education Problems: Deaf Blindness impacts the way individuals interpret and access information. Students may have award time learning the material and socializing with peers due to this disability.

Background Information: The cause of Autism is still unknown. Autism tends to run in families. Autism significantly impacts verbal and non-verbal interaction

Accommodations/Modifications: Touch cues and different symbols can be used for deaf students. Hearing Aids and a lot of material can be used for blind students.

Accommodations/Modifications: Verbal and visual cues, peer assistance and hearing aids.

Common Education Problems:Student may have a hard time adapting in a general classroom setting because they have a hearing impairment. This may cause students to fall behind because of their lack of hearing and may cause social skills for the students.
